You must renew your driver's licence every 5 years on or before your birthday. It is your responsibility to ensure that your driver's licence is valid. Renewal applications are mailed to you approximately 60 days in advance. It is important that you keep Motor Registration Division up to date with your latest address, otherwise, your renewal notice will be mailed to an incorrect address. The renewal application will indicate if you need to update your photo along with the renewal of your driver's licence.
If you do not receive an application for renewal, a couple of months before your driver licence expires, please contact the nearest Motor Registration Division office in your area for a blank form.
Follow all instructions. On the renewal application there are a number of questions relating to your driver licence status and health, that must be completed and you must sign and date your application document. Outstanding fines will prevent the renewal of your driver's licence. Your application will contain the amount outstanding at the time the renewal was printed. If you renew by mail, or pay at a bank, this amount must be included with the total submitted by you. If you pay in person, the fines payment will be for any outstanding fines amount on your renewal plus any additional fines you may have incurred.
If you wish to become an organ donor in the event of your death, you can indicate your intention on your application for renewal in the organ donor consent box.
If your driver's licence is expired less than 5 years, you may renew your licence without taking any written, vision or road tests. You will be required to complete a driver's licence questionnaire and pay applicable fees for the class of licence you hold.
If you hold a commercial class of licence you may be required to have a medical form completed by your family doctor. Please contact the nearest Motor Registration office in your area for further information on the medical requirements.
If your driver's licence is expired more than 5 years you will be required to take a written, vision and road test. However, you will be given credit for the time previously spent as a licenced driver and you may be exempted from the Graduated Driver Licensing Program.

If your licence is expired more than 5 years the applicant will not get credit for previous driving experience.
If your licence is expired more than 1 year, you will be required to take the written and vision test again.
Once you pass the written and vision test you have 6 months to pay for licence or you will have to complete a written and vision test again.
Once you pass the road test, you have 1 year to pay for the licence, otherwise, you will have to start from the beginning with written and vision test, but you would get credit for driving experience in Level I.
